GREEN BAY – Scott Wells won’t be playing against his former team Sunday – the St. Louis Rams center is on the injured reserve list with designation to return because of a broken foot – but that doesn’t mean the Green Bay Packers won’t have to game-plan around him.

Because Wells, who left as an unrestricted free agent in March after eight seasons in Green Bay, knows the Packers’ offense so well, the offensive line has to account for that knowledge. And veteran center Jeff Saturday, who took over at the position after Wells’ departure, has a plan.

“We’re going to speak in Pig Latin the whole game. So we’re not even worried about it,” Saturday said, clearly proud of himself for coming up with the brilliant plan. “Nobody can understand what we’re saying anyway. So Ixnay on that-ay. We’re really going to mess ‘em up.”

In all seriousness, Wells’ presence has to be taken into consideration, quarterback Aaron Rodgers said on his weekly radio show on 540 ESPN.

“I think you have to factor that in – and we do,” said Rodgers, who was more dismissive of the idea when former backup quarterback Matt Flynn was in the same position with the Seattle Seahawks last month, not playing against his former team but potentially giving insight to others.

“Year-to-year, this offense changes – whether it’s terminology or signals cadence, there has to be little nuances you install in the offense that you revert back to changing things up. We do that all the time and take that into account, Scotty (Wells) new the offense has good as anybody expect for maybe (fullback) John Kuhn

“Scotty is an extremely intelligent player, very good athlete for a center. He knows the offense very well, but maybe him telling them some of the calls we have to factor that in. The line has to factor that in with their line calls, but we will adjust.”

While the Pig Latin isn’t a bad idea – left guard T.J. Lang’s suggestion was Spanish – the line’s best chance of it not being a factor is to not have to talk much at all, which Lang and Saturday said has happened already this season.

“There are times when we just get to the line and everyone will just know what they’re doing and we don’t even have to make calls,” Lang said. “You have to take it into consideration, but I think we’re going to be good, just like every week. There’s been teams that have picked up on our calls before, just by listening, and we’ve adjusted.”
