GREEN BAY – Apparently Greg Jennings’ sports hernia surgery was a success. Not only did the Green Bay Packers wide receiver announce as much on his Twitter account Thursday, but he had the goofy-faced photo to boot.

Coach Mike McCarthy said Thursday that Jennings underwent what was termed “core muscle injury” surgery, and that “the procedure went very well.” Jennings had been scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday but it was delayed when Hurricane Sandy prevented both him and Dr. William Meyers, who performed the surgery, from getting to Philadelphia for the procedure.

McCarthy wasn’t clear on when Jennings would be cleared to return to action. Jennings has caught only 12 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown and will miss his fifth straight game Sunday against Arizona.

“My understanding is … it’s going to be basically a couple of weeks. (That) is probably the minimum that he would be back,” McCarthy said. “That’s what was communicated to me by the medical staff.”

Jennings initially suffered the injury in the Sept. 9 regular-season opener against San Francisco, missed the following week’s game against Chicago, then returned to play at Seattle on Sept. 24 and against New Orleans on Sept. 30 before reinjuring it. Initially diagnosed as a groin injury, he has not played since.
